Since last Friday, I have been hoping that I would have the time to join in the sew-a-long hosted by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet to celebrate the release of her new book called 'Farm Girl Vintage'. The sew-a-long is known as 'Farm girl Fridays' and I just couldn't resist the temptation to join in!
I ordered myself a copy of the book, which arrived at the end of last week.... just in time for the first 'Friday'. However, I was busy on Friday and didn't get the chance to make the first block that day or the next or even the next. Yesterday, I finally made the first block which, is called 'Apronstrings'. As I haven't had a lot of time this week I just made the 6" version.
It is a cute block and goes together quickly. As well as the quilts that appear in the book, Lori is planning to give lots of other suggestions how to use the blocks, including some tutorials. I followed the tutorial she gave last Friday to make this cute little Farm Girl Pincushion with my finished block.
I don't think that I will be able to make all the blocks that will be included in the sew-a-long but, as Lori says, the whole idea is to have fun, learn something new, meet new friends and be happy! Sounds good to me! I'm looking forward to seeing Lori's next block now.... later on today!
Christine, it's darling! I guess great minds think alike - over the weekend I debated joining this sew-along and finally ordered the book on Sunday. I am impatiently waiting for it and can't wait to get started. I love what Lori says about being the boss of your own quilt. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda! That is fun that you will be joining in as well! Hope your book arrives soon.... I can't wait to see your blocks too! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteI was hoping you were going to do this Christine. I too have done the 6" block. All the bright colours appeal to me. I can see a couple of the fabrics you used are the same as mine, so I know I'm heading the right way. Many thanks for the share. Margaret xx
ReplyDeleteHello Margaret! This is really fun! I am glad that you are joining in too! I also like the bright fresh colours, although I don't have many in my 'stash' as I have rather a lot of Tilda fabrics!! Good excuse for some retail therapy!! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteSo ein schöner Sommerquilt! Und das Nadelkissen ist entzückend :-)

Thank you Marion! They are Summery colours... and it is fun being part of the SAL! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteWhat else can a person want from life other than to have fun, learn something new, meet new friends and be happy? Sounds like you're on the right track!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary Anne.... it sounded like a good thing to me too! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteLovely block Christine. Well done! I shall be following the sew along from the sidelines, but don't really have the time to join in at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marly! I don't think I will be able to follow along with every block.... I'll just join in when I can! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteYour pin cushion looks lovely Christine. I love the little button you have used.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine! It was a cute little project to make and you can never have too many pincushions!! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteLovely, bright and cheerful colours! I like your little button too xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Janet! I liked using the brighter colours a different colour palette to the ones I normally choose! Have a lovely weekend! :) x
DeleteOh, this is great - we follow Lori's blog and it will be fun to see you making blocks from her book. Love the colours you have used in the block and how pretty it looks when made into a pin cushion and such a happy little button to finish it off.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really enjoyed using a different range of colours to my normal colour palette! The block and pincushion were fun to make... need to get started on the next one now! :) x
DeleteVery cute--I love string piecing and this block is so fun! I am trying to resist the sew along, but I can see it's going to be tough going!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! That is my problem, I see a cute project out there on the internet and the next thing I know I have signed up to take part!! :) x
