The Splendid Sampler: Blocks 14 and 15....

Another week and two more blocks for The Splendid Sampler have been released.  Block 14 was released last Thursday.  It was designed by Janet Clare and is called 'Flying High'. It is a beautifully simple design and I really loved creating this block.

I kept the background simple and just used fusible applique for the birds.  I finished the edges of the applique using a hand-stitched buttonhole stitch.

Block 15 was released on Sunday.  It is a foundation paper pieced block which was designed by Janice Ryan and is called 'Family Affair'. I must confess that I am not exactly proficient at foundation paper piecing, so I did struggle with this block.

However, the design is very pretty and, a challenge is not a challenge if it doesn't stretch you a little, so I persevered and I am pleased that I did as I am very happy with the finished block. It is not perfect but, it is good enough.... looking forward to the next block.... due to be published on Thursday.... tomorrow!!
