Another week gone and a new month....

Well, here we are at the start of a new month.  I can hardly believe that we have reached September.  This year to me has gone incredibly quickly and I haven't got anywhere near all the projects I would have liked to get done completed.

I shouldn't be too hard on myself though as we do seem to have been very busy and we have moved house which is complicated at the best of times but definitely a bit more so if you are a crafter/sewer!!

This week I have been working on my Metro Tiles Quilt again.  The pattern is by The Gourmet Quilter.

I managed to finish two more blocks which has meant that I could complete another row.

I was also able to add the completed row to the quilt top so far. I love the blocks of this quilt but I am struggling to get the construction to look as neat as I would like.

I think this is mainly because I didn't have the fusible batting that was recommended for the blocks.  I chose to use ordinary batting and just baste the block front, the ordinary batting and the backing fabric together with stitching.  This worked quite well for the shorter rows but this longer row doesn't line up as well as I would have liked, so don't look too closely at the photo.

I really like how the back of the quilt looks though as I have used different colour batik fabrics and the variation in colour is very pretty.

This row will be the longest row that I am adding and I will now work out again to the bottom righthand corner adding a row of five tiles, then three and then one.  The quilt will end up a square which will be approximately 40 inches square if I don't add any border.  I will decide about the border when the rest of the rows have been added.

I think I would like to make this quilt again but this time not use the 'quilt as you go' method but rather piece the blocks together after the appliqué has been added and then layer, baste and quilt in a more traditional way.  I'll see how I feel once this is finished.

I have also had time to finish a few more pages of my art journal.  I have really become quite addicted to these pages.

They are such a lot of fun to plan and then work on.  Very 'mindful' so a very good distraction from everyday life when you need it.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.  Until next time.... 😊xx

  3. I hate to think how many projects you planned to get done as you have certainly achieved heaps! How big are the Metro Tiles blocks? They look rather lovely and look beautiful together. I love the backing fabrics. Your journal pages are gorgeous! Such wonderful work. You are an inspiration.

  4. Seeing the blocks individually is nice but it's when I see them all together that the full degree of spectacularness comes out (and yes, I do know that's not a word, but it fits!!).
Your journal pages are turning out great as well.
