CQJP Challenge 2015: May Finished Block

Good morning! As today is the first day of June (where is the year going to?) I thought I would share with you my finished May block for the CQJP Challenge 2015.  The CQJP Challenge is hosted by Kathy Shaw and, if you are at all interested in crazy quilting, I highly recommend a visit to the blog to have a look at all the beautiful blocks the participants have made. Just click on the link above or the button on the right hand side bar of my blog.

This was my base block for May and here is the finished block....

I like to try some new embellishments each time I make one of these blocks and this month I thought I would try adding a couched silk ribbon bow.  I was very pleased with the end result.

I also added some colonial knot running stitch roses in silk ribbon, with detached chain leaves....

a fern stitch vine, decorated with french knots, bullion stitches and detached chain stitches....

some silk ribbon embroidered butterflies....

some silk ribbon embroidered tulips....

and several seams made up of a combination of embroidery stitches....

I also added a few sequins, beads and tiny buttons along some of the seams.

I am fairly happy with the overall effect but I can't decide if I want to add a couple of charms and a few more beads.  I'll have to have a think about that.

As it is Monday, I am linking this post to the stitchery link up hosted by Super Mom No Cape.

  9. What a pretty block! I love the butterflies! And your bow turned out great. Those two tiny bird fabrics add a really nice element to the block as well.

  17. Your embroidery is so beautiful. I know that some of those stitches are fairly easy, but I can imagine that the butterfly and tulips are somewhat challenging.

    1. Thank you for visiting me Cathie and for leaving such a lovely comment. I am fairly new to silk ribbon embroidery but it is improving each time.... the key seems to be to keep the ribbon untwisted! :) x
