Mrs Beasley's Sampler: Block 2: Complete!!!

Yay!! I am really happy to be able to show you my finished Block 2 of the Mrs Beasley's Sampler Quilt that I have been working on.  The quilt is a design by Leanne Beasley and is being published over four issues (10-13 inclusive) of Leanne's wonderful magazine Vignette. Block two was published in issue 11 and now I have to be very patient and wait for issue 12 to see Block 3.

Above is the finished block and below I have included some closer photographs to show the stitches.

There was a lot of embroidery work which, I thoroughly enjoyed and, I think I have improved my satin stitch.  I have never really been very happy with my attempts at satin stitch but with all the little satin stitch dots I needed to stitch for this block, I certainly had plenty of practice and I think it has helped!!

Now I've finished this block and, while I am waiting for the next block to be published, I have time to work on some other projects.  I have signed up to join a sew-a-long which is being organised by Martina at Sunshine Quilting. It is a sew-a-long which will be following patterns from the book 'Patchwork Loves Embroidery' by Gail Pan.  As this is one of my very favourite books ever, how could I resist joining in?  If you want to know more about it why don't you pop over and visit Martina's blog to get the details.  I have added a button for the sew-a-long to my sidebar on the right hand side which will take you to Martina's blog.

    1. Hello Shelly! Thank you!! It did take me quite a long time to complete all the stitching between other projects but it was really fun! I have a subscription for the magazines through a quilt shop in the UK but, I do know (because I visited a friend in the area a couple of years ago) that the Buggy Barn in Reardon, WA carry Vignette. I think you can probably order it online... in case you are interested! Have a nice weekend! :) xx

  2. Your stitching is beautiful. What kind/brand of embroidery thread do you use?

Like Shelly I also love Leanne Beasley and have paid for 4 of her magazines. They are treasures. Getting them here in the states is quite pricey!

    1. Hello Linda! Thank you so much! I try to use Cosmos thread but I can't always get hold of it in the UK. As I have mentioned to Shelly I do know that Buggy Barn Quilts stock Vignette but I don't know how much they charge for them. Have a lovely weekend! :) xx

    2. Thanks Christine. There is a shop here in Texas called Happiness Is Quilting that carries her magazines. I know because I emailed Leanne and asked if she distributed in the US, and she gave me the name of it. She said she visited that shop once, on a trip to the States, and looks forward to a trip back. The shop is close to where my daughter lives, so I have subscribed to their newsletter so I can get a heads up in case she comes back! :)

  3. Oh so beautiful!!!! I love this sample quilt so much! So sad, that it is very hard and expensive to get a copy of Leanne's magazines. So I look forward to see more and really enjoy it. And thanks for linking my blog for the sew along.
    Hugs Martina

  8. Liebe Christine, was für ein wunderschöner Block, so zarte Stoffe und wundervoll gestickt, besonders interessant finde ich wie Sie die Buchstaben gestickt haben.
