On a roll....

I have really been on a roll with my cushion making and with my crocheting at the moment. This weekend I managed to completed two more cushions.

The first cushion was another made with beautiful Tilda fabrics.  This time I used some of my scraps of fabric to make a 'dresden plate' and appliqued it to a quilted background square.

I quilted the background fabric with a diagonal one inch grid pattern before I appliqued the dresden plate to it as, it was proving difficult to know how best to quilt round the 'plate' otherwise. The 'plate' was then appliqued to the background using a small machine zig-zag stitch.

I finished the cushion by making an envelope-style back as I have done with all my cushions.

My second finished cushion was the crocheted cushion that I started last week after I completed my first crocheted cushion. It is made up of 16 solid granny squares in four different colours and then joined with a crocheted seam in a contrast colour.

I am really pleased with how this has turned out.  I used the same fabric as my last crocheted cushion to make the back.  As before, I used it to make an envelope-style back. One of my blogging friends, Linda from 'The Road to Oklahoma', asked me how I made the envelope-style back after I wrote about it last week which, led me to think that perhaps I should write a tutorial how it is made. I took lots of photographs when I put the cushion backs together at the weekend so that I can write a tutorial of how it is done. Look out for that later in the week!!

  2. You certainly have been on a cushion roll Christine! I really like the Dresden plate one. I have a die cutter for this and made a partial Laura Ashley vintage Christmas wreath last year-it did not get finished so perhaps I will try again this year, or make it into a cushion now you have inspired me!
